Life Committee is headed by Dr Jean Kagia(Gynaecologist), assisted by Dr Kiura Daniel
The Life Committee aims to promote a culture of valuing and preserving sanctity of Life. It has made great progress and currently the Committee is performing the policy and coordination role for Pro-Life Groups in Kenya. Article 26 of the constitution, the right to life, has some loopholes and does not clearly define how people should view life and its value.
- To create awareness to members of the public on the importance of life.
- To highlight the role of family in promoting life.
- To encourage networking and collaboration among prolife organizations in Kenya and globally.
- To profile and pitch pro-life in the public square.
The committee had a review of the Health Bill 2015 which is in parliament and raised quite a number of concerns in the bill. A memorandum was prepared on the same and Mr. Charles Kanjama an Advocate and the KCPF Vice chair made a presentation on the same in parliament.
Through the Life committee, the Kenya Christian Professionals Forum(KCPF) has been scrutinizing the comprehensive sexuality education programme that is being proposed in the Education Sector in Kenya. They had a meeting with the Ministry of Education Science and Technology where they informed the Ministry about the dangers of introducing the curriculum and sexualizing children at an early age. KCPF later was invited to a meeting with the Ministry and UNFPA where they interrogated the matter further.
The committee has continued to sensitize the members of the public on the dangers of CSE and also engaged in seeking a value based alternatives for teaching sexuality education to children.
In promoting the culture of life, KCPF, through the life committee together with other pro-life groups started an annual initiative, known as the Life week held in March to create awareness on the subject.
During the life week, the prolife groups hold the March for Life, a peaceful demonstration to share the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, the human life cycle (Life begins at conception and ends at Natural death), protest abortion and generally share prolife messages.
The health Bill 2015
The committee had a review of the Health Bill 2015 which is in parliament and raised a number of concerns on the bill. A memorandum was prepared on the same and Mr. Charles Kanjama an Advocate and the KCPF Vice chair made a presentation on the same in parliament.
The Invitro Fertilization Bill
The Invitro Fertilization which is in parliament was reviewed and KCPF raised legal, moral and ethical concerns of the bill. A memorandum was prepared and presented to the clerk of the national assembly. The committee have seen the need to educate the Kenyan on the IVF bill.
Reproductive health bill
The reproductive bill is in senate and KCPF was in the stakeholders meeting where they presented the concerns sited in the bill.
The FIDA Abortion Case
In this case, FIDA moved to court seeking for the legalization of abortion in cases of Rape. KCPF, through the life committee, is an avid campaigner against abortion and was therefore enjoined to the case against FIDA through Mr. Charles Kanjama.
This includes a group of prolife groups who come together to promote the culture of Life at different levels depending on their mission.
